In the world of economy cars intended to get citizens back on the road following WWII, the Morris Minor deserves more than a casual mention. Quintessentially British in design, it debuted in 1948 and, in a span of over 33 years, more than 1.6 million would be produced by Morris Motors in several series and in body styles to suit families, shopkeepers, salesmen, laborers, and farmers, offering efficiency and dependability. Convertibles were available from the outset, though far fewer were built than the more utilitarian models. While Minors were exported to the US, they were sold in very small numbers – fewer than 57,000 made their way to US shores as new cars, sometimes fewer than 1,000 per year. However, nearly 15,000 Minor 1000s of all types were imported to the US in 1959, more than in any other year.

The 1959 Morris Minor 1000 Convertible presented here was restored by the consignor’s in-house team in Southern California. Finished in dark blue with a blue interior and folding top, it is sporting yet regal. Steel wheels in contrasting blue with polished trim rings and white-stripe tires complete the tailored presentation. The engine has been upgraded with twin SU carburetors, which provide an increase in performance. Additionally, the Minor 1000 is sold with the engine that was previously installed in the car, prior to restoration.

Today, Morris Minors enjoy strong club support and parts availability, and are the perfect choice for a relaxed tour through the countryside, offering plenty of room for overnight bags and a picnic hamper. This distinguished blue convertible is ideal for any such weekend adventure.
